Kashubia or Pomerelia (the settlement area of the Kashubians in the north of today's Poland) probably never had its own flag, because the country had already lost its independence in 1294. Later it was a Polish voivodeship, but after that only a part of West Prussia. The colors of the flag go back to the old Duchy of Pomerellen. Its coat of arms showed a black griffin on gold.
